Cannabinoids

What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a group of chemical compounds present in the cannabis plant that affect body and mind via their interaction with special receptors. These cannabinoid receptors are found extensively throughout the immune, digestive, reproductive, central, and peripheral nervous system of humans and animals, and the activation is what leads to the medical effects of cannabis. Even if a cannabinoid is not psychoactive, it may still have tremendous effects. Cannabinoids are thought to have numerous synergistic interactions with one another within the body that are not fully understood and that do not take place with the sole administration of THC.

Types of Cannabinoids

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol)

THC is the most well-known cannabinoid and the most psychoactive- which means it has a ability to alter behavior mood, perception, and consciousness. THC is responsible for the euphoric feeling some people consider as being “high” as well as mild pain killing effects and appetite stimulation.

Benefits of THC

helps with controlling pain
help with relaxation
suppresses pain from nerve damage
helps control anxiety
suppresses muscles spasms and convulsions
helps control certain cancers
combats tumors
helps treat ADHD
helps with nausea
slows inflammation
helps fight free radicals in the blood stream

THCA

THCA is an acidic form of THC which most of the THC present in plant material is in. This compound cannot cross into the brain and is not psychoactive. The application of heat breaks down THCA to the usable THC. It is believed that THCA has systematic anti-inflammatory properties.

Benefits of THCA

anti-tumor
encourages appetite
helps insomnia
slows inflammation
helps control cancer cell growth
suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions

CBDA

CBDA is an acidic form of CBD. It can be converted to CBD with the application of heat.

CBD (Cannabidiol)

CBD is not psycho active, studies have shown it to have anti-inflammatory, anti anxiety, anti nausea and blood pressure lowering and painkilling properties among many others.

Benefits of CBD

helps control certain cancers
helps with controlling pain
stimulates bone growth
stops growth of bacteria
suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions
slows inflammation
eases nausea
reduces the risk of artery obstructions
decreases pressure in the blood vessel walls
reduces blood sugar levels
assists in controlling epileptic seizures
helps reduce risk of nerve damage
decreases anxiety

CBN

CBN is a an oxidation product of THC and is somewhat psychoactive at roughly 10% the activity of THC. CBN is a breakdown product when THC is exposed to light and or heat. There is very little CBN present in fresh marijuana plants.

Benefits of CBN

acts as a sleep aid
slows inflammation
helps with controlling pain
suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions
helps fight free radicals in the blood stream

CBC

CBC there is very little known about this cannabinoid, however, research has shown that it has valuable medical properties. CBC has no psychoactive characteristics associated with it.

Benefits of CBC

anti-anxiety and anti-stress
anti-viral and combats tumor growth
helps with controlling pain
stops growth of fungi
slows inflammation
stimulates bone growth
encourages cell growth
stops growth of bacteria
assists in contraction of blood cells

CBG

Very little is found in medicinal cannabis, but is more often found in higher concentrations in hemp. CBG has no psychoactive characteristics associated with it.

Benefits of CBG

helps with insomnia
stops growth of bacteria
combats tumor growth
stimulates bone growth
encourages cell growth
helps control type II diabetes
stimulates the growth of new brain cells (including elderly)
